Who Likes a Good Comeback?

Who Likes a Good Comeback?

Who here likes a good comeback story? Many of us enjoy cheering for the underdog team, the rookie player, or the overlooked teammate, but why?

People like us enjoy seeing others who have resilience, dignity, and drive because these are characteristics that we desire to have deep down as well. You are known by your characteristics. So, what is the first thing someone thinks about you when they get a text or phone call from you? If their reaction is UGH! They probably see you as some type of annoyance. If their reaction is awwwwww, then they may think of you as a thoughtful person. Whether positive or negative, you must know that everyone has a certain view of you.

People are becoming more and more accustomed to not caring what other people have to say, which has its dangers. Not allowing the world in is good, but not allowing the part of the world in that Jesus has specifically placed you in is not good. A calling is only received when a listener hears. A comeback only happens when you know where you stand about the world and in relation to Jesus Christ.

We must fix our eyes on Jesus and the characteristics displayed in Him. Philippians 2 possibly describes Jesus the best: Humble, a servant, and obedient. What does this have to do with a comeback, though?

Listen, Jesus was an underdog through and through. He was placed in a world that did not even know Him (John 1), a world that hated Him (John 15), and a world that mocked Him (Matthew 27). Did He not overcome such great adversity (Hebrews 12:1-3)? This is one of the many reasons we are so drawn to who Jesus is, He overcame the hardest challenges of them all, death.

I don’t know what you are going through right now, but I do know this: Jesus has overcome the world, and this gives us immense peace in our circumstances. The power of the Spirit resides inside us, the same power that allowed Jesus to be raised from the dead and defeat death. Friends, I wish I could say that I have never disregarded Jesus' power, but that would be a lie. I wish I could say that I never made myself more powerful than I ought to be, but that would also be a lie. However, it ultimately doesn't matter what I think about the displacement of power, but how I receive it and wield it. Jesus gave us Himself, which is more power than I should ever be held responsible for. The good news is that He guides the guideable and the earnest seekers of His kingdom.

I will leave you with this: Jesus has never been far, you have been the one who has been distant. Every time you feel an urge to come back to Jesus, do it; it has already been too long. He has always had open arms and has always been ready to give with a full heart (James 4:2-3; Psalm 37:4). Receive Him now and make the greatest comeback of your life starting today.
